Verizon Wireless May Expand Unlimited Prepaid Plan to Additional Markets

Verizon Wireless has been testing a $50 unlimited prepaid offer in Florida and California and may soon expand the offer to additional markets.
The prepaid plan called Unleashed, offers customers limitless voice time, texting and Web.
"We're happy that the experiment has gone very well for us, we could actually evaluate our prepaid business," said Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo.
In the past, prepaid has been marketed to lower-income consumers and is more subject to user turnover. Prepaid makes up a small portion of Verizon's business. Verizon had approximately 4.4 million prepaid customers as of the end of June.
On the other hand, Sprint and MetroPCS raised their prepaid subscriber rolls by 5.1% and 19%, respectively, as of the end of the first six months.
